Wishing you and your family a wonderful holiday season. Merry Christmas!

December 7, 2023
During these difficult times we would like to wish our Jewish friends a warm and joyous Hanukkah. As you light the menorah, let each candle be a beacon of hope, love, and peace, and a reminder that light always overcomes darkness.

Wishing you and your family a happy thanksgiving! May your day be filled with joy, laughter, and all the blessings in the world.

Season comes to an end
After Labor Day for some reason attendance literally dropped out sight. There were a couple weeks of bad weather but after eight futile attempts we’ve decided to call it quits for the year. Hopefully next season will have a better conclusion, very disappointing indeed.

Happy Labor Day!
As expected, with the holiday weekend, we had a low turnout, and we ended up playing another round robin game. The field was in terrible condition. I’ll be contacting Parks tomorrow to complain.
We had a really good workout. Lou’s team prevailed 8-6-5.
In attendance were Scott, Gordon, Will, David, Lance, Lou, Brett, Mad Dog, Roberto, Kevin, Kenny, Doug, and the writer.
See you guys next week, and please show up on time. Thanks!

Kenny’s Write up
On a beautiful Sunday morning, following a drenching Saturday dawn rain, twelve players showed up for a round robin game on the grass and back-to-back with the cricket players.
The three pitchers were Eric, Scott, and Louis (welcome back). Eric's team dominated with Kevin pounding the ball to all fields. John hit a monster home run, Danny and Eric were getting endless base hits. The final score: Eric's team 18, Louis' team 5, and Scott's team 4.

Attending today were Kevin, John, Danny, Eric, Brett, Will, Kenny, Louis, Carlos, Denny, Doug, and Scott.

Let’s all try to show up this week as it is Labor Day, a sure sign that the summer is winding down.

Sticks win 13-10
We had another decent turnout. Unfortunately, after the mid-week downpours, the field was in bad shape, we had to get rid of a massive puddle around home plate. And once again, we witnessed an extremely contentious and competitive game. The Artichokes were ahead 8-2 but in the sixth and seventh innings the Sticks scored eleven runs to secure the win.

The MVP was Carlos that blasted a three-run homer and flashed the leather at short. Paul also had an excellent day at the plate, he was a hitting machine.

On attendance were Brett, David, Paul, John, Andrew, Artie, Warren, Miller, Carlos, Kevin, Andy, Roberto, Will, Kenny, Danny, Scott, and the writer.

Round Robin
We were expecting another great turnout this past Sunday, but the early morning rain ruined it, and a few guys bailed out at the last minute. With only fifteen players we had no choice but to play a round robin. The infield was flooded so we set the bases in the outfield. Artie’s team won the game 7-4-3.

In attendance were Artie, Carlos, Kenny, John, Denny, Eric, Brett, Paul, Gordon, Scott, Will, Roberto, Andy, Giovani, and the writer.

Artichokes keep rolling
Last Sunday, the Artichokes beat the Sticks 13-9 to win three straight games in a row.

The player of the game was Carlos that flashed some leather at shortstop displaying a ton of range, soft hands, and a strong arm, a really impressive performance indeed. Also, Doug played superb left field.

Offensively Manny managed to hit a couple of long balls, but newcomer Jerry put on a show with his vicious powerful swing trying to literally hit the cover off the ball, it kind of reminded us of the great Vladimir Guerrero.

In attendance were Brett, Carlos, Doug, Frankie, Kenny, Artie, Eric, John, Paul, Jerry, Jose, Manny, Louis, Kevin, Gordon, Pul 2, Mike, Will, Warren, Miller, Scott, and the writer.

What a thriller!
Last Sunday we had another great turnout. The field was flooded by home plate, and we had to do some comprehensive groundskeeping. We decided to skip batting practice and start the game right away.

We witnessed a terrific game. There were a few outstanding defensive plays, e.g., Louis unassisted 6-3 double play, a couple of homers, an opposite field blast by Mike and a 3-run shot to dead center by Bret, and even a home plate collision involving Artie and Lance.
The Artichoke won the game 11-10.

In attendance were Doug, Kevin, Kenny, Eric, Gordon, Mike, Artie, Paul, Danny, Denny, Brett, Louis, Paul 2, Roberto, Andrew, Warren, Lance, Will, Scott and the writer.

Artichokes Unstoppable!
This past Sunday we had a great turnout and a couple of new faces. The weather was just perfect, likewise the Artichokes were just perfect, playing flawless ball and displaying all the attributes of the good teams, superb pitching, solid defense, and timely hitting.

In the first inning the Artichokes quickly took advantage of the Sticks’ poor fielding and persistent blunders scoring four unearned runs. The final score was 9-1.

Paul 2, Warren, and Louis flashed the leather and made several outstanding defensive plays, Lance smashed a triple off Kevin’s glove in left field and Louis crushed an opposite field homer over Pedro’s head, a laser shot.

In attendance were newcomers Roberto and Paul 2, Louis, Gordon, Kenny, Warren, Artie, Andrew, Danny, Scott, Frankie, John, Kevin, Pedro, Paul, Michael, Miller, and the writer.

Rained out
Due to inclement weather and low expected attendance it was mutually agreed to call the game off. See you guys next week!

With only twelve players we were forced to play a round robin format.

Artichokes beat Sticks 23-9
We had another decent turnout, and the weather was unseasonably cool for this time of the year. During the first three innings it was an even-keeled affair. But in the top of the fourth the Artichokes would make a strategic move by making a pitcher substitution and bringing in fireball hurler Eric to relieve junk ball artist Artie. In the bottom of the inning after a series of defensive mishaps by the Sticks, the Artichokes would blow it open scoring seven runs and then five in the following inning.

In attendance were Eric, Brett, Carlos, Doug, Gordon, Artie, Denny, Rob, Frankie, Andy, Pedro, Warren, Adam, Kenny, Scott, Lance, Will (late arrival) and the writer.

Artichokes win 20-15
Memorial Day weekend is referred as the unofficial start of summer but today is a much solemn occasion, it’s a day of remembrance, we honor the brave men and women who gave their lives defending our country and protecting our freedom. We are forever in your debt. We thank you. We proudly remember you.

Yesterday we had a great turnout, twenty-one players made it to the field, the biggest crowd of the season. An interesting game indeed. We had a bit of everything from controversial calls by the umpires on both sides, poor fielding, awful misplays in the outfield, great pitching, rally-killing knucklehead plays on the basepaths to intermittent solid hitting.

Lance and Pedro were the RBI machines driving in a ton of runs. Yours truly ran out of gas by the fifth inning but Eric kept pumping fastballs and striking out guys till the last minute, a very impressive pitching performance.

In attendance were Frankie, Dave B, Lamont, Gordon, Doug, Will, Eric, Marjorie, Artie, Scott Z, Brett, Andy, John, Pedro, Arun, Dave, Juan, Kenny, Lance, Efrain, and the writer.

Sticks beat Artichokes 15-2
This past Sunday we kicked off our 26th season. It was a windy and chilly morning but the bad weather didn’t deter ten diehards that made it to Field 11. We had a good workout!

The infield was muddy and unplayable, so we set the bases in the outfield. After batting practice, we played a 5-on-5 self-pitch game. The Mozzarella Sticks put on a show, it was like a homerun derby. Kenny hit a grand salami and newcomer Penn blasted a pair of solo shots.

In attendance were Dave, Denny, Artie, Arun, Lance, Brett, Penn, Kenny, Will and the writer.

Sticks overpower Artichokes 14-2
After four consecutives rainouts it was nice to be back in the field. And we couldn’t ask for better weather to play ball but unfortunately the turnout was not up to expectations. We also had to deal with a couple of large infield puddles and the grass was high.

Not much to report, the game was lopsided. The Sticks won effortlessly but at least we had a great workout.

In attendance were Brett, Gordon, Artie, newcomer William, Frankie, Kenny, Will, Andy and the writer.

See you guys next week!
